Help - Antenna does not operate
I have a 1999 convertible. The power antenna does not respond. I can hear the motor, but the antenna stays the same length. How hard is it to replace? How do you replace it? Thanks!

Inside the houseing of the antenna there is a sort of drum around which is wound a flexable nylon plastic rod that is attached to the end of the antenna mast. that is what pushes up and pulls it back down. unfortuantely that plastic has a tendancy to break over time and you will hear the motor spin but since it is not in one piece anymore it just spins. I think Gm sells an antenna repair kit that consists of a new mast top with the new rod. You have to take out the antenna assembly and take it apart and replace the broken part with the new one. I read on the forum that you take out the taillight next to the antenna and remove the unit thru the hole. Maybe there is a link in the archives that describes the procedure. The change out is a bit of a pain but doable. It is cheaper than replaceing the whole unit but then by now they may have discontinued the part in favor of selling the whole thing. I've seen the replacement rod on sale in one of the Corvette catalogs I get. The Whole antenna is about $99 and i think the repair kit is about $30 or so. Look online at Ecklers, Corvette Central, etc. Think you will find what you need. Mine is a '98 so im hoping it lasts a while. Good luck.
