I have a few questions on thermostat replacement. I want to install a 160 thermostat when I get my car programmed. Is it easy to install and is it in a easy location to get to. I have better than average mechanical skills. And are ther certain brands that are better that others. And what is a good price I should pay??
Hypertech 160, it will open when it should, and close when it should. Some vendors (who shall remain unnamed) sell modified GM thermostats. I tried three of them, none operated as they should. Run away.
The install is easy, you will loose a little coolant, so have some to add. Or, better, remove fully half of your coolant mix, refill with distilled water and water wetter or Purple Ice. Now when full you will have 25% coolant and 75% water which will provide enough anti-freeze capability for sub-artic operation (below zero anyway ), will provide enough water pump lubrication and corrosion protection, and will cool better.
Last, for best cooling in stop and go driving, change your fan turn on and off temps with a handheld tuner or a pro tuner can provide this as part of a tune.
Thanks alot guys. I figured it was pretty easy but I always want all answers before trying it out on the vert!! The plan is to buy the thermostat and the programmer at the same time. I havn't decided yet whether to buy the exhaust before or not....I guess it depends on whether I find the right deal!!
