comments on vara ram intake
That being said, I would argue that almost anyone who tells you their VR is not a relative piece of junk designed, manufactured, and updated by third graders forced to attend summer school is lying to you. Why would they be so blatantly dishonest you ask? Simple: misery loves company! They want you to have a piece of $#!% also so that they will have someone to help them figure out where that big chunk of oh-so-brittle plastic went wrong (it has to be the old foam filter...if only I had waited another three months for the VR B2 with the green filter!).
Please notice above that I said "almost" anyone, so if you are beginning to feel the rage....relax, I wasn't talking about you. I'm sure your VR (B2) is very well made, that you got it for $20 less than anyone else (with free shipping, of course), that you installed it 17.3 minutes faster than anyone else on this forum, and that you are the gifted one that was able to figure out how to make it work.
I will be the first to endorse my VR B2 for the power gains. I'm just saying that I've yet to see an intake on the market that is more poorly made (or even made as equally poor, for that matter!). If asked about my experience with the VR intake so that it might inform another member's purchase, I feel compelled to offer them my honest experience, opinion, and advice about the kindergarten arts and crafts project, I mean, technologically advanced, well engineered, extremely durable, and incredibly performing LS1 intake unit that is the VR B2.
Bring it!!!!!!
I pasted this in from another forum topic so, "No," I'm not responding directly to your thread or trying to cause trouble. I'm only providing feedback on the Vararam and laughing my @$$ off (one more time for the sensitive types, not at your expense, really).

Thanks for your honesty

I was surprised by a VERY heavy rainstorm on my way home to Connecticut from Carlisle last Sunday night. I was driving a Callaway SuperCharged Corvette that was equipped with a Honker. The deluge came down on I-95 in Connecticut and lasted for more than an hour, during which I drove only about 30 miles. Sometimes we slowed to a crawl, at other times I could reach up to 55 mph. This was some of the heaviest rain I've ever driven through. It was quite dramatic. I found out later that part of I-95 was closed temporarily, just after I had driven through. It rained that hard. This part of the trip was more severe than anything the engineers had arranged. I don't even know how those conditions could be simulated. The next day we disassembled the system and found no evidence of water ever having passed through the element. If I hadn't seen it myself, I would never have believed it.
I suppose one could get anything to break if they try hard enough. But after Sunday night, I wouldn't hesitate to drive a Honker-equipped Corvette through anything that a stock Corvette could drive through.

But the fit and finish of the Vararam is horrible and the poor QC can make installation a royal PITA. That was the case for my install. I had to do a LOT of tweaking/drilling etc to get the thing to fit right.
I was so impressed with the gains from the Vararam that I just bought and installed one for the green car in my sig. This unit seemed to be better made than the one I installed on the white car and although not perfect it installed much easier.

Interesting...I bought a brand new Vararam and, after seeing, and inspecting it, turned around and sold it for a loss on the Forum without even installing it. I didn't want something like that on my car. Instead, I ended up having the foglight shrouds drilled out and feeding outside air to my Blackwing that way. As efficient as the Vararam? Probably not, but also without the downsides of that unit. The Vararam theory is great and I wish someone would make and sell a similar, but well-engineered unit, using those foglight shrouds for intakes. A great idea, just very poorly executed. I am considering the Honker after all that I have read, but would truly prefer something that used the foglight openings rather than the shroud in front of the radiator.

What filters are in your two Vararam units?

I just installed the gray gauze filter, and the fitment sucked.
