I just did mine 2 weeks ago..its not that hard..you must undo the seatbelt bolt underneath the plastic covering. also a screw or bolt for the plastic covering by the seatbelt covering...I took my waterfall off but i dont think ya have to..its only 6 screws i think..Once you get all the plastic off and you can see the bolts that hold in the top...I think there are six..very easy to get too. the top slides out towards the front..Also when removing origional top i had the top opened and folded up(helps to have a holder) I makes removing bolts easier...once you get it out..reverse process however do not tighten the new top completely in..just snug each bolt almost by hand tightning them. close top and latch down...then tightn bolts snugly with socket..then open up top and crank them down to spec..I did not have a torque wrench but you want it pretty tight i think. I did the swap with a buddy of mine in about 45 min.

I have posted a similar thread in this forum a number of times in the last six months or so and am very interested in hearing from someone that has replaced a C5 top on their own.
For clarification, are you talking about the removal of your entire top, including the hinges, weatherstripping, headliner, etc. (as opposed to just the cloth top overlay)?
I would both benefit greatly and be very gracious for someone's input on replacing just the fabric top.
yes, I did the whole assembly and all...it was VERY easy...no down time for an installer to have my car several days...I wouldnt even know where to start to just replace the cloth.....

I tryed to replace mine and it was a nightmare. Finally, I just took it to a local guy who replaces convertible tops and does interior work. He does vettes all the time and it still took he and an assistant about 3 hours to do it. He charge me $250 and I am happy about the deal. He said he has to fix quite a few that people try to do on their own.
