Light for Automatic Shift Indicator?
I was driving my '00, A4, Coupe last night, and noticed that there was no light under the center console transmission shift indicator. I can't remember if there ever was, but seems like there should be, so one could see what gear you're in at night. So, can anyone tell me if this area should have a light, and if so, can you tell how to go about checking / replacing the bulb?
Thanks!
Thanks!

light
My 98 has a light. Its a PITA to get to. Have to remove the bottom of the boot. Must remove center console and a lot more. Then you can get a small screwdriver in to release CAREFULLY the PLASTIC hold downs holding the bottom of the boot shift mechanism to the base.
A FUN JOB for sure. GOOD LUCK BIGHANK

Does anyone have detailed, step by step instructions for removal of the center console, and shift boot for an automatic, necessary to replace the shift indicator light bulb?

shift light
Pictures look good on last post. If you have an AUTOMATIC you must remove the shift **** by removing what looks like a large cable staple in the BACK of the ****. A small screwdriver will do the trick or use a pick to get it started. I beleive you said you have an automatic.
Detailed VERBAL instructions are in the GM shop manual The diagrams they provide are helpful but not very detailed. Don't have to remove boot from the shaft only the **** and slide bottom of boot housing up on the shaft to get to the light.

Ok nothing is as simple as it looks. I need to change my indicator and still haven't seen enough detail how to remove the boot/shifter **** on my auto. Great on manual but not a clue yet on the auto. Anyone made any better photos or details would be appreciated.

No need to buy the entire shifter call zip for the part.
Toughest part was getting the boot around the bezel for the new lens.

No need to pull console, radio bezel or boot. Details here with instructions to replace original bulb with LED.
Great pictures.

Carefully.........it is not difficult, just pry up the lens with a box knife or knife blade. Set the lens aside and then the bulb is easy to replace. Assembly of the lens is a bit tricky, but not too difficult.

What is the ZIP replacement part and where did you get it?
Since I posted the comment about removing the shifter boot my red indicator has broken. Found the ZIP replacement part on the ZIPCORVETTES website. Can you just pop off the old diffuser and red plastic indicator without removing the whole boot. If so how?
