My coupe has 30k miles on it. I just bought it from the original owner. It has had nothing but a few oil changes since new and just got the second set of tires. I replaced the original air filter (orange GM paper) with the AC Delco replacement part. Now, when you apply full throttle one or sometimes both of the retaing straps handles pop up. I only noticed this after I installed the new filter. There does not appear to be any tension adjustment on those strap/handles. I don't use full throttle very often but I do not like thinking that the filter box assy is anything less than tightly sealed. Anyone else ever had this happen. Advise on how to correct?
...make sure they're seated correctly at both ends. I don't see how the metal straps could stretch that much...not impossible though. If that's the case, a small shim under each strap should take up the slack.
I just removed my oem assembly for an aftermarket. I thought that I had correctly placed the ends back into position for storage, but one popped out. Remove the oem assembly and you'll see the positioning.
Had a problem that seemed like every other time I opened the hood I would see the snap popped open (either side). Removed assembly and made some slight bends in the strap metal to wrap better (follow bends closer) and no problem since.
i had the same problem on the right side of my 02-everyday. the correct fix is mentioned above. the simple fix is to place a very small rubber shim between the lock and the air box cover to tighten the strap. no more loose strap.
When you latch them down, are they super tight or loose? Mine were super tight...so much so that the aircover/airfilter holder itself acted like a pivet point for the metal strap and it constantly came undone. I simply bent my strap at the pivot point so it followed the curvature of the air cover better...see below!
