Re: Performance increase on '99, MN6 from Hypertech PP?? (Gramps)
I tried one when they were first available and all the power tuning did was make the engine detonate thus losing power... I had already removed the MAF screen, though.
The only good thing it offered was fan temp. reprogramming for a lower temp. thermostat but that wasn't good enough to justify the cost.
Re: Performance increase on '99, MN6 from Hypertech PP?? (Gramps)
I use one on my 2000 and I will admit that I had detonation at first but we only have 91 octane gas here in Wichita. So I put 2 bottles of octane booster in the tank (not the cheap stuff, the off-road stuff) and not only did it cure the detonation, it allowed the engine to fully utilize the new air to fuel ratio to drop my 1/4 mile et from a best of 14.59 to 13.81 and my top speed from 98 mph to 103 mph. Was it the octane boost only? Don't know for sure but I seriously doubt it. If for no other reason that the fact that I also raised the rev limiter to 6400 rpm which is 200 rpm above the factory limit. I was only able to get one run in that day (September 1st) but it was a good one for me. I will make another run soon without the HPP III but with 2 bottles of the same booster and see what happens.

I used mine when I installed my lower thermostat and noticed a little SOP improvement. I did not notice any detonation and already had my Halltech installed with MAF that they offer. I liked the ability to adjust my rev limiter and fan speed, when you weigh everything it is a fair investment depending on how mod crazy you plan on going.
