I`m sure this is in the archives somewhere but I don`t know what it would be listed under, hence the post here.
I just re-installed my stock tune via my Vinci/Crane programmer, after which I had 1 current and several history codes, which I am told is common with this tuner.
I cleared all the codes and have already driven the car 150+mi.
I`m still code free but do I still need to perform a certain number of re-starts before taking the car in for smog (I`m in So Cal.)
It is not the miles the car is driven it is the number of engine cycles. You might get a "not ready" test if the car is hooked up to the OBD II scanner. If they just check for the CEL then you'llbe fine.
There are several tests that get run by the OBD system that takes a specific drive cycle to complete. These test will generally complete in a day or 2 of normal driving. Things like O2 sensor heater, EVAP system, EGR system are tested this way. In Il, 2001 and NEWER cars are allowed to have one of these tests fail-soon it won't be any. If you reset the system too soon before the test-you WILL fail. I use an Actron handheld or my AutoEnginuity on my laptop to check before I go in to be sure there will be no surprises.
