Running without cats in Cali is just asking for it.

Best bet is to register the car in a exempt county, or maybe find a friendly smog tester will over look the visual violations since you've passed the sniffer(hopefully). You'd have to be pretty chum with the guy to have him try and fudge the sniffer test portion!

You get caught without cats and it can be a $2000 fine. They arent messing around anymore on smog stuff being tampered with.

i dont think its worth the 5-10 hp gain.

a buddy of mine has some LG Pros and switched out from H/F cats to no cats and didnt even feel a difference other than the fact that his exhaust is louder now.

I seriously doubt anybody could pass the CA sniffer part without
cats! I would be very surprised. Best to have high flow cats in Cali.
Best of both worlds.

i just wanted to throw the environmentalist aspect on it , what about the air quality of ca? sure chopping off the cats will make ur car louder and probably end up throwing more crapp out the back that you have to wash off your vette's tail, but it will release even more co2 into california. i dont know about you but clean air is important to me especially when its its not so great to begin with, as are most places in cali.

If you want to spare the earth and clean the air then get just one of the blue smoke puking, barely running, junkers off the street. That'll be like taking one thousand clear running, well tuned, catless LS!/6 cars off the road.

BTW: With a careful tune you CAN pass the sniffer without cats. Not easy, but can be done. A tuner friend did it with his '99 Vette.

I have had my own issues w smog testing but I don't like brown air either. As with all of life, trade offs.

And at least in the bay area there is a number to call and get those smoking clunkers off the street:

1-800-EXHAUST.
