Default Superchips

I posted this on the scan and tune section but there's not much action over there. I'm sure I'll get a lot more opinions here.

I have a friend who is trying to sell me the Superchips tuner for my 2000 C5 coupe. I am not usually much into mods in general so this is new to me, hence looking for advice from fellow forum members. I did a search and couldn't find much pertaining to this device. Anybody had any experience with this thing? Is it worth it? Is there something better for less? Advantages, disadvantages. They claim 10% hp increase. My C5 is totally stock.

Thanks in advance.

Your say your C5 is stock. Do you mean a stock torque converter or stock clutch. It really does make a difference considering your question.

Sorry about that, I should've had that listed. It's an MN6 with a stock clutch. 36,000 miles. The only mods are 02Z sways and shocks, Carbotech pads and Dot 4 fluids. I do occasional HPDE's and no dragracing. But that doesn't mean I'll NEVER dragrace it. :-)

I would find a local tuner or pull the PCM and send it to a tuner. I sent mine to Chuck at WoW and was very pleased with the results. Cost about $350 plus he had me change the stat to a 160.

PM me if you need info

I tried a few tuners (hand held) and did not get huge increases with an almost stock car. I did use a super chip tuner on my truck (5.7 hemi, 5 speed A, HD towing pack...) and it made a huge improvement. The biggest change will be in shifting an A4. With an M6, I think you would be better with a custom tune, unless, the tuner is so cheap you can not say no? Good luck!

I like the one that I have for my vette but the one for my WS6 TA was mostly a waste. Like as said above if you have the A4 it helps but the M6, well it did nothing for the TA. I can still use it to read and clear codes on the TA though.

I have the SC tuner for my A4, It just helps getting rid of the torque managment and shift firmness.

I would like to say thanks to all who responded. Once again this great forum comes through. It seems it's pretty much unanimous that this thing will be more useful on the A4 and my money is better spent on a custom tune and dyno.
