My friend has this annoying problem and the mechanics can't agree on the cause. She has a 2003 Z06 that she just bought and the windshiel wipers stay parked in the up position. Everything works when she turns the wipers on, the delay works and the constant on works but as soon as she turns them off instead of going into the "parked" position they will move all the way up and park. It is annoying to have the wipers straight up when you have them off.
I spoke to several mechanics and nobody can agree on the cause. Several including myself think that its a problem with the control module on the wiper motor itself. Others seem to think it is in the wiper motor switch. Unfortunately we can't decide how to test to see which is the cause and we don't want to just throw parts at it. Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it more likely to be the switch or should I try replacing the wiper motor first?
I can only assume that the "mechanics" you are speaking to are not GM mechanics. The corvette service manual has a detailed troubleshooting procedure for this problem.
I'm taking it in to a GM dealership tomorrow because I talked to a tech who is going to hook it up to a Scan II to see if any codes were thrown and to pick up a copy of the diagnostic procedures.
If you have the manual would you mind telling me what problem would cause this?

I would check the drains under the front cowl, particularly the ones hiding behind the brake booster. When they clog the area where the wiper control module lives can flood with water and mess up the wipers.
Thanks for the service manual info. I ran all the diagnostic tests and I think that the windshield motor is the culprit. When I removed the motor to test it I noticed that the utters were full of leaves and junk so the motor probably got wet. I ordered a new motor. I think that it is odd that the only thing that doesn't work right is that the wipers won't go into the parked position.
Thanks for the help guys, I hope the new motor works.
Don't order a new motor,it sounds like it's working.Just get the control module. When you re-install everything, make sure the wiper arms are "clocked" in the park position.
The control module is part of the motor. I spent 4 hours working on this stupid thing. It turns out the motor was bad but when I replaced it I had a different problem, the cam and the park cam weren't touching so I had to bend it back. Everything is finally working correctly. Actually the wiper arms needed to be in the intermittent position and then turn the key off to get them aligned properly. The GM online manual says there must be 4 to 5mm between the park tab and the cam but the wipers were off a little so I shortened the distance to about 1mm. This was much more complicated than I could have expected.
