IMO the easiest is a short throw shifter. Helps a ton and makes the car feal very sporty. Chaning out the fluid helps a ton too, but I am not sure if it a DIY unless you have jack stands, good jack ect... I changed to Royal Purple Syncro MEsh and LOVE it. Makes the shifts way more smooth and it just goes snick snick. Big change for the better. Wierd thing that helps is gears My trany was shifting like crap with the 342 out back, but the rear end was fine, and looked great when we swapped to a 390. The higher gears made the car shift much smoother.
Someone smart can explain that one, but I am a beliver. Good luck and I say get a shifter
