When slowing down, (and sometimes driving real slow) there is a distinct THUMP that seems to come from the rear of the car. It's not consistent at all.
anyone familiar with what this might be?
just to add, this SEEMS like it started after my trans fluid was changed.
I have something like what your describing. mine is a 2001 coupe, and it sounds like the shock top nut is loose I have to find the time to get the shock out and check it
on mine, when i step on the brake with no bumps in the road, it's quiet, but when there is a bump, it's like the gas in the shock keeps the shock in place on the compression stroke, but when the car goes back up to it's rebound, the shock can't compensate fast enough, and there is a thud. mine is a 6 speed, and if I stop, and it does it, starting again like reseats the problem and then it does it again on a larger bump.
If you figure it out before i get the shock out, let me know.
oh by the way, my noise is associated with the right rear because bumps on the left rear don't make that noise. I purposely drove over left bumps and right bumps to differenciate the sides. but at first, i thought it was brakes, then looses gas tank, then found an oilcanning panel right behind the right seat(the one that's covered with carpet?) then I thought it was a loose panel under the car and slid a mirror under the car taped to a broom handle, and everything looks showroom nice, so that wasn't it, soo that's how i started going over bumps wierdly to see what I could find. I even had someone let the clutch out in first and reverse with me laying on the ground next to it with a bright light also.
