Chirping sounds are often from the idler tensioner pulley's aswell. If you start having the chirp again, check the idler pulley's, one will probably need replacing.
Also, my experience with both auto's and manuals. The motor will turn over no matter what gear it's in, e-brake applied or front jacked up. That's simply why there is a tool for that.

I had my harmonic balancer replaced at a dealership. I also had a chirp. The new ac belt that I had was not a gatorback belt so I replaced it with one and the problem was gone.
I sure hope that this is the case with mine! I took her for a spin last night and I didn't hear a sound other than the pleasant hum of the LS1. Let's hope it stays that way!
Thanks to everyone who chirped in (I mean chipped in) on this thread!

The gatorback belt seems to have done the trick for my chirping problem as well. I've given it a week or so, but still no chirp!
Wow, what a relief that I don't have to take the Harmonic Balancer off again!
