Default Any Jesel rocker users here.

Guys, I spilled over from the zo6 forum to ask a question.
I am building a 402 forged LS2 with all the right parts, Fast 90/90. LG headers, etc etc
Anybody using Jesel shaft Roller Rockers on this site. I am being told by Tony Mamo ( he would know) at AFR that if I used the Jesel with my AFR 225 Heads and AFR 8019 springs that with my Comp cam ( 251/255 .661/.664 110) and Comp R lifters that I would get vave float after 6000 rpm. He suggested using the stock LS6 rockers because they are lighter and would be better for float due to inertia. I know that they can be redone with better bushings. Jesel said they haven't heard of any problems and that is why they were made. I was wondering if any one on this site has used them with any problems. I already have them and they look great.
Thanks guys

I have them on my own car (C5R 427) and have used them on a few customers cars, but they are a lot of money and really are not necessary. Of course as a distributor, if you do want them I can get you a good price on them.

Are those springs the upgrades AFR springs? Also, are they the adjustable Jesels? One thing to consider on the Jesels is that the adjuster is part of the moving mass, with stud mounted it is not if you are looking at roller rockers. You might want to also ask Tony what head mods are required, when I looked at them I was going to have to elongate the pushrod holes.

I have them and with approx. 30k miles no problems. Of course valve float is a result of springs not rockers. IMHO they are bulletproof. I'm redlined at 6800 and have never floated.

I'm using Jesel Sportsman's on AFR 205's. I had to shim them .025" to get a narrow mid-lift wipe section and I had to clearance the underside of the rockers because they were hitting my retainers. Since then, many trips to 6800 with no problems. I also am using Ferrea hollow stem valves on the intake and have shimmed my springs an additional .060" for greater seat pressure. The valve train is solid at 6800 rpms.

Thank Guys. I have the sportsmen non adjustable. They were supposely already machine for the interferance issues and would fit my AFR heads AND stock valve covers,. Tony stated that they were an issue only with HYDRAULIC rollers on LS1. On solid cams they were fine. Here is a link to the thread. I am close as hell on my spring specs and I don't need any WIPPLE WOBBLE on my valve train.

Our setup is similar:
347
Jesel Mohawks
PSI Springs
Comp Lifters
Trend 3/8" .135 wall pushrods
spinning to 8000 on a regular basis.

Phil...

Your running a solid roller where the benefit of the stronger (heavier) aftermarket rocker is obviously needed.

My point is simply there have been many threads where guys have swapped from aftermarket heavy rockers back to the much lighter stock units and gained power due to better valve control @ higher RPM's. This is a very general statement and is not specific to Jesel who is one of the manufacturers that I feel makes an excellent product. When running aftermarket rockers, spring choice becomes critical as well as lobe profile and rocker ratio (assuming a hyd. roller bumpstick). Ive seen the dynamics of what I am touching on here personally on the dyno (numerous times), spoken to other engine builders on the subject, and have seen it documented in a few threads on the various boards as well.

22655....the bottom line is you stated you own them already....bolt them on and go to the dyno. If your power curve isn't a smooth arc till 6800 or so you may now have a clue why. Worst case is you swap on the stockers....no big deal. Your set-up might work out fine but that wont be the case 10 out of 10 times.

I would stick with the stock rockers and have Harland Sharp rebuild them to eliminate the potential needle bearing issue. It cost approx. $240 to have your stock rockers rebuilt and they come back with new bolts.
