As I said before I have a 99 ( vert, A4, very late 99 build 5/6/99 ). I put a 02 Z06 lid only on my car without any problem it appears to seal fine, everything fits, before this I had a 01 Z06 lid again it fit fine without any problem. The 02 Z06 lid I ordered was part #12567571, $60 from a local dealer ordered on 8/25/01. In either case all the other parts were as delivered with the car ( base, straps, and filter frame). Don't know what else to say it seems to work fine for me, what other details can I supply, I have the original 99 lid, 01 Z06 and now 02 Z06 lid the exterior mounting points and dimensions are identical, the interior ribbing is different but it was changed to promote better airflow, and of course the NACA appearing hole in the top. The straps stay closed fine nothing has come apart in the last 1000 miles, if it's not supposed to fit I certianly can not figure out what is not supposed to work. If you go with a 02 base you then have the problem of a different MAF size so you would have to change out the base to MAF coupler anyway, not sure how to sucessfully do this. Hope this helps

Tom

The part is #12567571, the description is DUCT ASM -FRT INT AIR and it came in an AC Delco box if that helps.

My car is an '01, so I can't comment on the 97-00 fit. I can confirm the MAF is larger on the '01-'02, which is connected to the lower airbox.
Any locals  are welcome to test fit my lid on their 97-00.

The new air box opening to the air cleaner increases by approximately 6.65 square inches (43 cm2). This additional Volume contributes to more horsepower.

Sorry, but I don't have any dyno numbers or ET's , only a SOTP (seat of the pants) improvement. If I had to guess, I would say 3-5hp, but that might be high.
