I installed the Z06 Airbox tonight as a replacement for the restrictive stock piece. It was very simple and took less than five minutes. Picked up a little with the SOTP meter and still have "peace of mind" regarding water intrusion.
:blueangel:
I'll try to get some pix posted to show the larger opening on the Z06 part.
I'm interested in retro fitting this to my 99. Like other posts - does anyone know if this will fit a 99? Also how much? I wonder if Ken Fichtner and his folks can answer this.
This seems like the best way to provide additional but SAFE HP. I don't like living on the edge so my 99 is about as "stock" as a 99 can be but if the factory has a part that can extract free HP I'm game.
Yes, It fits a 99 just fine put one on mine last week. Takes 15 min to install. $60 at your local dealer. The bands, base, filter and frame work fine they do not need to be replaced. I had a 01 Z06 cover on the 99 that I swapped out for the 02 version, someone could have it very cheap if they wanted.
C5_Tom you just made my day. Since I missed MAD Funfest where 45 of my clubs vettes made the trip due to work I don't feel so bad now.
I sent Ken Fichtner an e-mail inquiring how much he'd sell the part for. He usually beats the sticker price by 10 to 15%. But in any event this will be my first "real" mod to my C5.
Same here! Been waiting for Ken to post the cost of this myself...I started a post the night the '02 Z06 was first shown as this looked like the best way to improve the stock airbox on my '01 but still remain "stock."
Glad to know you don't change anything but the lid...I thought someone posted at one time you needed new straps and other parts.
This will be my first "Mod" as well...I can't wait.
:D :D :D :D :chevy
There seems to be some disagreement here. I sent Ken Fichtner an e-mail about this and here's his Part's Manager's reply:
"The 02 LS covers are just coming available. I have been told
by one individual that it took him 10 to 15 minutes to install it.
He said was a direct fit with no problem. The bottom part of the
cover is the same for 01 and 02. The top cover lists for 60.00 and
your cost would be 45.00. If your C5 is a 97 to 00 you would need
to change both pieces. The bottom cover lists for 119.00 and your cost
is 89.25.
If you would like to order or have any questions call or e-mail.
Thanks for the inquiry and have a great day!
