ground clearance
I am trying to buy a jack that will work on my car with the jacking pucks. I have found a scissor jack (GM) that will work with 4 1/8" clearance. I checked my clearance with a jacking puck and it was about 5 1/8.'' If I have a flat, my clearance would be lower. I bought my vette used so I am not sure if it was lowered. Does anyone know what the clearnce should be? Is there a jack out there that will work with less than 4 1/8?"

Check E-Bay. Use "racing jack" in search box. There is a low profile (blue & silver) which min heighth is 3 1/4". I have one very similar and it works great with lifting pucks. I bought mine at GI Joes in Washington state for $99.00. Hope this helps.

I have a "3000lb capacity Harbor Freight aluminum racing jack". The website claims 3" minimum height. The box claims 3.5" minimum height. The actual minimum height is less than 3.125", including the rubber pad on the jack. This jack happens to be on sale right now for 79.99 in the store nearest me. You can get it for 84.99 on the website.

Mine is about 5 1/8" to the frame, and I'm fairly certain that it's stock. I use hockey pucks (double thick) and cannot really get a jack underneath the front w/o ramps.
I have a Craftsman 1.5 ton aluminum that comes in at 3 3/4" ($100). I did find one on a web search that's 2 1/2", but I do not know the quality (Astro Pneumatic, for $150). I'm sure that there are others out there.

I have a couple of AC Hydraulics that easily go under my Z06 even with extra thick jacking pucks.
Expensive, but the quality is the best. The DK13HLQ has an extended reach at only 3.1" height.

Also if you already are not using them...build a set of ramps. Most of us are using 2x10's or 2x12's with one, two, or three layers stacked in an offset fashion to drive up on so the jack will fit. Works great on lowered Vettes!
