When the plastic stop breaks or is missing, the motor arm has nothing to hit when closing so the motor will continue to run resulting in the door reopening usually until it hits the OPEN stop. But since yours still continues it's possible the OPEN stop is also missing causing the door to continue again until the control module times out.
It's a cheap and easy fix. All you need to do is remove the black bezel surround around the headlight to get to the plastic stops.
Also a side note but I had my headlight cage and lens out and left the motor hooked up .. was SCARY how long the motor sees voltage AFTER the headlight is up or down ... poorly designed .. would say that the motor is spinning against the stops (or attempting to) for a solid 1.5 seconds after the headlight has "stopped".
No wonder we all have such problems with gears or stops wearing out ....
