Default Flat Tire Jacks??

Hey Guys,

FLAT TIRES

I am switching over to non-run flats and have bought a plug kit and compressor.

What are you carrying for jacks in your cars?

Thanks, in advance, for the info.

Chad

A lot of people use a Mercedes Benz jack (I think it was from the E-class model) which we got from a member in Germany. His forum name is/was (I haven't seen him here in awhile) C5 Fredrick. If you search you should/may be able to find his posts, and pictures of his jack, in the archives. I think you can buy the jack stateside; he just sold it to us for a very nice price.

I have a small scissor jack from an 86 GM Celebrity. It folds to about 2 inches high and easily goes under the car. I have small block of 2X4 to put between the jack plate and car. Works great.

The jack is raised with a screw that has a 19mm head - the same as the lug nuts. I bought a 19mm, 1/2" deep socket, cheap extension and rachet and that is my kit. (plus tire plugs and a cheapo walmart cigarette lighter compressor).

I found a small all aluminum collapsible scissors jack on EBAY. It came from a Mazda RX7, but I believe some Porsche models had them as well. It'll collapse down to approx. 3 1/2" heigh and uses a crank handle, also made of aluminum. It weighs about five pounds and fits into the center cubby hole perfectly. Not a bad deal for $25.00.
If you really want to get trick, find an inflatable air bag jack and use your compressor to lift the car. The bags can be found on the internet, but I'm not familiar enough with them to know the collapsed height or weight.

If you are going to carry a jack to take off a flat on the road, you need to test it separately with both a front and rear tire flat as this may lower the car enough that you can't get a jack in place.

I got mine from Ewald aka C5 Frederik for $50 shipped to my door two about a year ago. A great little jack that fits great in one of my rear compartments in my coupe. He's on my buddy list for reference. This is his profile if anyone wants to send him a PM.

I too have a small scissor jack, from Auto Zone- about $15, and an Aluminum lift puck. Works great, but I hope I never need it!

This is the model I got from C5 Frederick last year. Don't know the part number. Of course, it's not set up in the correct position to lift in this picture. Great for emergencies......Small but mighty!!

Fred,
I thought they were similar, but the E class version was a bit beefier, and I was under the impression that was the one he was sending us, but I could be wrong (my wife says I am every single day)
