My pass side headlight makes a weird grinding sound when I shut my lights off, kinda like grinding gears. It actually got stuck tonight & only one headlight opened.
I tried it again & both lights popped up, but still the right one grinded when it came down
They are all the same, sort of. The '97 - early '00 have aluminum motor housings. Late '00 to '04 have a plastic housing. So, yours is the plastic housing, as is mine. Just order the kit or kits for the plastic housing and it comes with epoxy to glue it back together and if you get them from Rodney Dickman, they come with a brace to help keep the plastic housing from coming back apart. These should last the life of the car as they are brass gears, not the cheap plastic gears that come with it.
Remove the head light linkage from the actuator motor then turn the motor in the up direction 180 degrees. That will move the stop postion of the gear and should work.
The motor only uses 60 to 70 % of the gear. That worked for me and the job took about 20min. Good Luck

This is a good suggestion, especially if it hasn't been doing it very long and not a lot of damage done to the gear. Mine did it for a while, and I put it off until the other one started doing it. I tried to do the 180 rotation deal and it just made the grinding noise when it went up instead of down. Had to break down and get the gears.
