Not so. They are also trained to go for headlights too (or any other area they can get a good reading)I have the Escort Laser Shifter ZR3 and have been successful on two occasions in not having to stop and visit w/officer friendly. Not necessarily speeding mind you, but the officer kept trying and kept trying to get a reading and was unsuccessful until I was relatively close (approx. 500' or less by my estimate).
Money saved (potentially ) by not receiving 2 citations: Approx. $300.00
Look on officer's face as I drove by: Priceless!
BTW, on one of those two occasions, the officer was apparently so puzzled at why he did not get a reading on me until I was very close, he shot me from behind as I was departing. Reason I know you say? My rear facing transponder sounded off big time.
If I were buying a unit today, I would be going for the Blinder M40 Extreme. Best there is.
