I have the new B&M that can go in a C6 or C5. It has a noise isolator to keep rattles down. It makes no noise at all and the feel is great. It has great response and makes the stock feel liek a sloppy loose stick in the mudd

I just shortened my stock shifter via Chuckster's instructions. Gets rid of the rubber isolator, shortens the throw about an inch (you can go more, but that's what I wanted), not notchy and doesn't rattle.

Oh, and the cost??? Priceless.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Personally, I purchased a Hurst, had it in the car for about a month, took it out and sold it ! It was to stiff and notchy for me. As of now I'm looking to get a Ripper.

Just my .02

I'm a tall guy and with the seat all the way back it feels like I have to reach for the stock shifter. The adjustability of the BPP makes it very nice and much more comfortable.

I did something similar to Chucksters mod, and we installed it in my buddies car. It's a big improvement over stock, and cost next to nothing. I will say that taking the shifter apart, is not the easiest task, but if you have more time than money, give it a try. If you don't like it, go spend the money on an aftermarket shifter. I don't have a welder, so I removed 1" from the outer shell with a cutoff wheel , removed all the rubber (a heat gun will help here). I then cut a small amount from the end of the shift rod, in order to get the full 1" shorter length. I then filled the void where the rubber was, with a good quality epoxy putty and then drilled and pinned the two pieces together just to insure nothing could come apart. Use a good epoxy like Marinetex (this stuff is just about bulletproof) or PC7 (light weight but strong) which is what I used. I think you'll like the results.

I shortened the stock shifter using the tap-die method. It shifts super-easy, but some people who've driven my car notice that it wasn't as precise as aftermarket ones.

If I were to replace it, I'd go with a C6Z06 shifter.

I had the B & M. The first week I was ready to take it out it was so stiff. After a couple of weeks it loosened up. It is now the nicest shifter I have found. I have driven other cars with the Hurst and BPP's and was told theirs was stiff and took a little break in time as well. My preference, all things considered was the B & M. Back when I was ready to install a shifter LPE reccomended the B & M and informed me it would take a little while to break it in.

Dang, the only prob I had with the stock shifter was I couldn't cleanly see all the climate controls! Took the stock one out, used a ban saw to cut off 7/8" of the 1.5" of threading, installed a Flameball and was good to go. The stock shifter feels great rowing through the gears...especially an inch shorter. Just an alternate solution to consider.

I've got a Hurst, and after a few months of break-in, it is the only way to go (it loosened up a bit after about 3000 miles of use, that was 2 years ago). I had forgotten how crazy-short the throws are, until I drove my brother-in-law's stock Z06. While the stock shifter is adequate for a normal car, a sports car should have a shifter that is not vague in feel, nor overly long in throw.

Ditch the POS stocker and get an aftermarket shifter! I'm partial to my Hurst, but there are several options; try to drive cars with different shifters to get a feel for them.

Things I notice about the Hurst:

* Increased effort? Yes, no question about it (breaks in nicely with the stock springs, IMHO).
* Rattle? Not very much after I put a nice MOMO **** on it (stock **** rattled like a ****).
* Shorter throw? Hell yes, about 1.5 inches from gate to gate, if that.
* Missed 3rd gear? Never.

The last point is the reason I bought the shifter. After missing 3rd at 70MPH, and the resulting sideways action, I decided the stock POS shifter had to go. There is no denying the faster shifts, and no mistaking what gear you are in with a Hurst.

Why did you go sideways at 70 mph when you missed third gear?

First gear at 70 is a bad thing.
