i have the stock shifter and have only had the car for about 3 weeks . the only problem i have is getting into reverse. i have not driven cars with any other type shifter so i have nothing else to compare it to.
I voted for B&M because I've tried Hurst, Pro 5.0, and I just like the feel better. Shifters are something that are a matter of personal preference I think. To me, the Hurst only felt slightly better than a stocker. PRO 5.0 was too hard to use. B&M was just right.
I drove a Pro 5.0 in a f-body and loved it but never in a C5.
I did not care for a few Hurst shifters in C5s. B&M was much better
If the purpose of you post is to decide what to buy... fast forward to the next vette get together in your area and try a Hurst and B&M. You don't have to drive it to have a decent feel for it. I thought the stock shifter was an embarassment and ripped it out right away. I'm happy with Hurst, but if I had a coupe instead of a vert, I might look at the B&M. The Hurst does make some noise, but I rarely hear it over the GHLs and the top down noise.
My 97 has a C6 shifter. Not sure if it is a Z06 or standard C6 unit as it was in the car when I purchased it about a month ago. Shifts crisply and looks great.
thats the ticket!!!
any of the light plastic hollow shift ***** will cause a rattle and make the short throw not so smooth. the solid big heavy **** kicks azz. causes smooth shifts and eliminates the rattles/vibrations. mine is about the size of a cue ball and its some sort of alloy, aluminum, titanium, or something. it is solid and heavy
C6. You poll is flawed without it. One thing though - if you install a C6 put a blob of silicone on top of the shaft before installing the ****. I have had mine about a year and it has a very small amount of play between the shaft and **** that causes a click sound when shifting hard or fast.
I have the Hurst and love it. It rattles a little and yes it shifts a little harder than stock. But to me there is nothing like the feeling you get when jamming thru the gears in a short throw shifter.
