Default "Secret" Competitive Mode

I was told that my 2003 (and similar C5's) have a "second" level of competitive mode. I'm not sure what it does, but if anyone has any knowledge of how to get to that mode or what it does, PLEASE let me know.

THANKS

here are your choices
  1. Everything On
  2. Everything Off
  3. Traction Control Off / Active Handling On

I have not heard of any other although my clearance may not be high enough for that top secret information

Sit in the car, hold your nose w/ your left hand, then rub belly w/ your right hand and say "Corvette by Chevrolet" 3 times... then poof, magic flying mode.

Yes, there is a second level, but you have to install the throttle body coolant bypass and performance hood seal first.

Got to love all the answers, boy did you ask the wrong question

For a serious answer, NO there is no secret 2nd level. As stated in the first response, you only have the 3 choices

There is no second level unless you insert a 427 in tab "B"

I don't know about the "secret" selection on a C5, but I really miss this handy button I had on my old C4.

I'm really glad someone finally asked this question. I've noticed it too. There are certain times when I really want to go fast, it feels like afterburners kicked in and you can feel the powerful surge forward.
OH!!! Never mind. It only happens when I cut loose the "BIG ONE".

Grab the shifter, and while "Corvette by Chevrolet" is on screen, push the handle Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right, and then hit the Active Handling button and start the car.

Wrong - that's not the way to access the secret 2nd level of Comp Driving, but instead that is the top-secret, not supposed to tell Corvette handshake - Way to go posting the top-secret Corvette handshake on the internet so EVERYONE can see it.

Everyone knows that the secret 2nd level of Comp Driving mode is still a Chevrolet secret.

dcamcd,

This answer will not be as entertaining as the others posted above, but I believe someone has mistakenly confused the C6 "Competitive Mode" as being available on the '03 and later C5 as you indicated.

If you press the Active Handling button twice in the C6, the car will go into what Chevrolet calls the "Competitive Mode" in which the Traction Control is off and the Active Handling system is on, but with a greater degree of tolerance for directional stability (yaw) and (rumored) firmer shifts for automatic transmissions.

Here's an excerpt directly from the 2005 C6 Owner's Manual:

Active Handling System
The Active Handling System is a computer controlled
system that helps the driver maintain directional control
of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. This is
accomplished by selectively applying any one of the
vehicle’s brakes.
I think this means that for AH the brake on any one (or more) of the four wheels can be activated. Again, the TC only acts on the rear wheels.

When you go into Comp mode, TC is disabled but AH is still active.

Competitive Driving Mode
The driver can select this optional handling mode by
pressing the ACTIVE HANDLING button on the console
two times within a five second time period. A chime
will sound and COMPETITIVE DRIVING MODE will be
displayed in the DIC. Competitive Driving Mode
allows the driver to have full control of the rear wheels
while the Active Handling System helps steer the
vehicle by selective brake application. The instrument
cluster light will not be on. The Traction Control System
will not be operating. Adjust your driving accordingly.

Hope this helps.
