Default Any Thoughts on Rx450?

Hi folks. I'd like to hear from anybody who has taken the Vette Doctors Rx450 perscription. I'd hear what you like about it and what you would change if you could do it over again. I hear nothing but great things about the doctors, but I haven't read much from their prescription users.

I have an 01 C5 M6. It's got 30K on it. It's my third vette. My other two were C4s. I think its time I had one that wakes up the sleepy neighborhood I live in.

I want the car to be very streetable and be able to pass the PA Emissions Inspection. But I'd love the car to have a nice lope at idle and talk to me when I let her run.

You would be very satisfied with that setup. On an M6 "The Docs" can get you to well over the 400 RWHP mark depending on your choice of cam while maintaing "stock-like" manners. I'm not sure what other mods you have but they are right next door to American Racing Headers Corp, arguably the best header on the market for the C5. Also the package itself is extremely friendly until you mash the throttle and then all hell breaks loose. And though there are corvette shops closer to my house. I've been a loyal Vette Doctors customer for well over 6 years and don't mind the 130 mile roundtrip because in my opinion they are the best !! They just did a supercharger package on top of my Rx-450 and I couldn't be happier. Give Carmen a call he will take good care of you. (631) 841-0779....Spencer

I have mine a while now 3 years at least. What I do to it makes drag racing a walk in the park. No 12 second or less blast. I blast it in 25 minute sessions either on full acceleration or full braking mode with glowing rotors. It has over 5000 miles on it of which over 4,000 are pure track event miles. It's always out front of even the bigger cube motors so you know I work it extremely hard. I have a fairly big cam and it passed roller emissions in NY with the cats on. Power was 450/400 and they can probably do better now that three years ago. Get some nice heads and do it once. Runs good with the AC on too. AC is nice in the pits while waiting to gt on track. Still got 29 MPG cruising at 65 on DIC so I lost 2-3 MPG tops.

Five years ago I went to the Dr. for my 00 vert. I was cautious and went with a mild cam. Got about 388 rwhp. Nothing every broke. I went back to the Dr this past Feb. Went with a more radical cam and the new American Racing Headers with LS6 heads.

Now I am at 431.5 rwhp and while it sounds radical coming from the Corsas, it drives stock; onless you hit the go pedal hard. I can not say more than what you have always read here about Carmen, Dennis and his crew. Honest, straight forward and builds the engines we all want. The car screams when pressed and drives great. My only advise, do not be cautious as you will be back for more hp later. Go for all you can from the start.

Carmen, Dennis and Joey at the Vette Doctors have only been honest and a pleasure to deal with in my quest for more HP out of my zo6. If I had more time Id hang out at the shop! Thats all you need in this game to be happy!
They tuned my car to perfection. Great MPG, big power, and great manners.

This winter I am thinking about a cam only package. Maybe a special rx500+ for me .
Only the vette docs for my vette.
See you in December Carmen.

Luck for me though, I'm only 30+ miles away.

Default Thanks for the responses...Need some advice

Thanks to everyone for responding to this. These guys must be great.

My car is stock and dollars are a little constrained. It's an 01 C5 with a manual. It has 30K on it. I'm trying to figure out which is the best way to go with it. Orginally I was planning on a Calloway Honker, American Racing Headers, Corsa exhaust, and dyno tune. Then I came across the Rx450 package and that sounded like a good plan. I love a car with a nice cam. They sound great to me, but I can't imagine doing the heads and cam without headers. So now I'm confused and I'm having a little trouble getting a hold of the doctor. I thought I might get some good advice here before I get a hold of the doctor.

06CobaltSS I'm really interested in what your results are with this. What other mods is this building on?

Default Just Did RX450

Just had the RX450 package installed in August. I also had Z06 clutch put in last November, Z06 intake manifold and Blackwing. Dyno sheet below. USed American Racing LT and CNC ported Z06 heads with attending valve train parts.

Definite lope on cam. Redlines 65-6700rpm. (224/228 .591 115 ISA) Hunts for an idle ocassionally especially when cold but very streetable otherwise. Resonance picked up quite a bit in 14-1700 rpm range. I will be switching to Ti catbacks from Bassani Quiet Thunder shortly. So don't change catbacks yet until you hear how it sounds. Considerable amount of valve train chatter just like old solid lifter cams. People definitely know it is not stock.

Just bought Drag Radials..only problem I am concerned with snapping rear now...just too much RWHP...

Next Mod is either 390 with hardened shafts or Z06 transmission with hardened shafts.

I also added the oil pump change, double sprocket roller chain.

Carmen, Dennis and Joey do a wonderful job and have excellent customer service attitude. They even cleaned the car and shined the tires. If you want a different sound and some additional, reliable power, they are the guys to take it to.

Goood Luck...Welcome to the club.

P.S. I had 78k miles on the car when I had the work done. .

I really like the idea of doing everything, but the heads now. I guessing that I could get about 360 rwhp out of those mods. Am I in the ballpark? I'll have to run that past the doctor.

I am also a Vette Doctors Rx450 club member..okay, it is closer to rx500..Either way, had it done in earlier this year. The car has run great so far. I wouldn't change anything excepy maybe more gear. The Vette Doctors were great and very helpful in the entire process.

See sig for results

I agree and thats my plan.
Depending how aggressive you want to go with a cam you can go up to AROUND 410rwhp with stock LS1 heads and 430rwhp with stock LS6 heads.

My goal would be 430-440rwhp stock ls6 heads, you think its possible Carmen?

Do heads later on and crack 500rwhp n/a

Default My Baby is at the Doctors.

I dropped my baby at the doctor's this weekend. Nothing like trying to get there from PA during the NYC marathon. Many thanks to Carmen for understanding why I was so late.

Based on the great things I've heard and talking to the doctors I decided to go with the RX450 package, Corsa Pace Car Exhaust and new rear gears. Haven't decided on whether to go with the 3.90 or 4.10, but that decision will be made shortly. They're also going to replace the timing chain, oil pump, turn off CAGS, and take care of the column lock. Should end up with about 420 rwhp and 380 rwtq.

Can't wait to get it back. I'll post the dyno results when I get it back.

Thanks for all the responses. You guys are great!
