Default Cooling fans not working at all

My first real problem occurred on my 97 last night . The ect reached 248 on the freeway and in town . When I got home I realized that I didn't hear the cooling fan . This morning I started the car and turned the a/c on and no fan once again . I followed the sticky on electrical and cleaned all of the under hood grounds (they looked good but I cleaned them anyway) and checked all related fuses and relays ( I swapped holes on all but the 5 pin ) . I also checked dic codes and didn't find anything current , just H codes . Where do I go from here ? I ordered the factory service manuals fri at lunch before this problem occured so please be more disriptive than check circuit # . Charlie

Update ; after chasing my tail I warmed up the car and when it hit about 130 degrees one of the fans came on . I took the car for a quick drive and the temps still hit 253 . At home both fans were on . I thought that with the a/c on the low speed fan was always on . I turned the key to the run position with the a/c on and no fans . When I turned the key on at 253 the fans wouldn't start until the car was started . This problem just started last night so I'm going to give the thermostat a test and see what happens . If I'm totally wrong on how the system works please let me know as I'm still scratching my head trying to figure this out .Charlie

These cars pick up a lot of stuff in the radiator, you may want to pull the upper radiator shroud (4-10mm bolts) and look between the radiator and the condenser and then from underneath at the condenser. I have found everything from grass to plastic bags in there. Never seem to find any money though

Still not sure why I had the fan problem but the thermostat kept me from having an LS1 BBQ . Charlie

You might want to consider changing the coolant. I also run a Vinci fan switch, easy installation and I have it set to come on at 207 and it goes off at 201 degrees. You can set it lower, but I wanted to make sure my oil gets up to temp.

The thermostat isn't preventing anything from the sounds of it. If you're hitting 253 degrees, I'd stop driving the car and investigate. As already suggested, check for obstructions in between the condenser and radiator, and check or just replace the thermostat. Changing the coolant will do you no good, so don't even go there, just make sure it is full. Do you have access to a service manual?

250 anything is way hot. You're on the verge of extra crispy cylinder heads. Stop driving the car and shut it down before it gets that hot, next time.

I guess the other question is whether the 250* is accurate or maybe you sensor is wrong.
