Default Blackwing filter (Help)

I have been running the blackwing filter now for almost 2 years and now that i have put the Tiger Shark front end on my car seem to be running rough at around 40 to 50 mph it seems to be jerking alot and the tack is jumping up and down 4 to 500 rmp and when you pull up to a stop light sometimes it want to try to die.

Is it possible to relocate the Maf up to the TB so there isnt so much turblance rite at the filter where it is at now are do i just need to try and find someone to give my car a good tune?

I have checked for codes and they are none.

Any help would be great.

Thanks Randy

When I installed a blackwing I got alot of pinging at WOT. My fog light housings were cut out and I suspected the MAF was getting too much turbulant air, probably like what is happening to you, throwing off it's readings. I did the relocation up by the throttle body and it seemed a little better, but I still had some pinging. I went bank to the stock airbox with a Z06 lid and K&N.

My problem was solved. Just my 2 cents

I don't think this is a blackwing problem. Are you sure there are no leaks after your MAF? I really don't see how this could be a Blackwing problem, espcially when a Vararam is pulling air directly from the front of the car.

I really think something else is going on. I think there's a leak somewhere (vacuum, intake bellow, etc).

FWIW, I have the exact same setup (Blackwing with no foglight surrounds) and get no knock retard.

So the location of the MAF for the last two years has been no problem, and now you want to move it? It is virtually impossible to have laminar (non-turbulant) flow in the car intake. Something else is wrong. Start looking at what you disconnected and disassmebled in the course of your new front end install.

On another note, when I had my blackwing on, I cut my air shroud right below it, to let it really get some good cold air. I saw that some of the cold air systems were doing this. Unless the systems are routing the air in a way where the air does not hit the filter directly. As soon as I drove 10 MPH, the car started bucking and hesitateing badly. I had to turn right around and head back to the garage and put that piece, I cut out, back in.

I'd like to see a picture of what you did wrong. There has to be a plausible explanation.

I've had the BW for a couple of years and have the fog light housing cuts without pinging but I had pinging with a handheld tunner. After getting a street tune I have no pinging. I use 91 octan gas.

I am going to put the stock air box and filter back on tomorrow and see if it is the blackwing causing the problem are not.

The tiger shark lets in alot more air the whole center section is open and there is alot of air coming in around the filter which is causing alot of turblance. where with the stock front end it only get air from under the car i have checked everything 10 times and cant find a leak any where.

My ZO6 has a Blackwing and of course there is direct flow to it because the ZO6's only have the wire mesh up front and air goes straight to the filter. Alot more air than a C5 without the foglight surrounds. Never had an issue with pinging or bucking. I agree with JR that I would look at what was diconnected during the front end install.
