Default Hood Removal Tips?

I am about to embark upon a little work on my car and was thinking about just removing the hood in order to have a nice clean shot at the front of the motor. As part of this maintenance I am considering removing my hood in order to have plenty of room to work and easy access via the front of the car.

My question to you is: For those of you that have removed your hood for any reason, is it easier to remove the hood from the brackets or is it easier to remove the hood with the brackets attached? I have seen plenty of posts where p-eople have removed the hood from the brackets but with the position of the bolts in the brackets, it looks to bhe a bear in order to remove those and put them back.

Any and all tips appreciated!

1. Unplug the hood light connector.
2. Mark the outline of the hinge plate on each side of the hood clearly. For even more reference, take out one bolt, mark the oval hole of the hinge on the hood, reinsert/tighten the bolt and repeat for all 4 boltholes.
3. Disconnect the support struts (only at the hood- they can stay secured to the frame). May not seem necessary, but they will tend to tweak the hinges sideways if left connected.
4. Remove the 4 bolts securing the hood to the hinges, and set the hood aside. This part will definitely take 2 people. The hood is very light, but it's too big and awkward to do alone.

5. There shouldn't be a need to remove the hinges from the frame unless you are replacing them. But if you do want to remove the hinges, trace and mark them well on the frame the same way you did on the hood before removal.

To reinstall, hold the hood up to the hinges, start all 4 bolts, relign to your tracemarks, tighten bolts. and reconnect the struts.

"Pat" - I could say the same thing to you

Y2K - Thank you for your post, I thought about that same method.

I just did not know if anyone had ever tried removing the hood along with the brackets and that was any easier since detaching the hood from the brackets makes aligning the hood back a bear when putting everything back together.

This is the way I would recommend. Easier to remove and realign.

I just reinstalled my motor, and taking off the hood is a piece of cake.
I took off the brackets from the car.
Very easy 4 bolts, unbolt them, and thats it!
When putting it back on, put the brackets back over the studs, and bolt down!
