I am going to go look at a C5 this week (looking to buy) that has a bad rock chip in the windshield, the close-ups make it look like a hole.
The chip/hole is on the passenger side, away from the hud; maybe this is 1/8" dia. hole? Small but noticable, and I am concerned it could start a crack later.
Question: Can you repair a small whole in a C5 windshield without doing the whole thing, and if so, what would it cost, $300???
What does the whole windshield cost with labor, $1000?
You should be able to have a windshield glass repair shop repair the mark for $50.00 or less -
You can also install a NON- HUD windshield and it will work for the HUD, but without the higher cost of a HUD windshield
I've even bought vehicles w/ rock chips in the windshield, and my ins. co has been happy to fix existing rock chips - it's cheaper for them than replacing the windshield if the windshield cracks
One thing though - rock chips should be fixed soon after they occur - less opportunity for dirt to get in the chip (which can't be removed), and less chance for the chip to become a crack.
I don't know what a new windshield costs, but most insurance companies waive the deductible for glass repair. Check with you agent. Small rock pecks that cause a "spiderweb" typically can be repaired.

That's good--I didn't think the insurance would be appropriate, though, as it obviously happened under the other guy's watch.
If you haven't made a deal yet, perhaps you can get the seller to have it repaired as a condition of the sale. He can probably get his insurance to cover it. Good luck.
