Default Help with changing coolant

Hi guys, I just got dont putting in a new 160 Thermostat. I ihave been tryign to put the coolant in 1 Gal Water and 1 Gal Coolant so far and it doesnt seem to be going in the system out of the surge tank. The tank is full and I would think it would lower a little? I followed the directions that I got from Hypertech and the temp is now at 220 and looks like it is still going to go up? I shut down the engine before I caused any damage.

Can someone tell me a better way to do this? All I want to do is drive it to a place so they can change it out properly.

Thanks
DAvid

David-

Couple of questions when you cahnegd the thermostat, were did you drain the system from? The reason why I ask if you did not drain the radiator and simply took off the old thermodtat and replaced quickly with a new 160, then you most likley did not lose that much coolant. If you drained the eadiator and when you removed the old thermostart, you lost a considerable amount of collant, then you might be air bound. REv the car to around 2000-2r500 and hold it there at ioperating temperatue and it will air purge itself.

Another question, did you measure (catch) what you lost coming out at the time of the change? BTW-Unless you get your fans on earlier than the factory settings, they come on at 226 degrees. All the low temp thermostats in world won't cool a C5 at idle without the fans coming on at around 175-181.

Hope this helps-

Thanks, No I swapped out the thrmo and I did loose alot! All over the floor. I have reved and done everythign but I just thought 220 was too hot! So I turned off the car. I didnt know the fans come on over 220. I plan to get the car tuned so the fans will come on sooner. I just dont want to damage anything. On my 96 there was a bleeder screw that made it easier. Well at least I thought it was. I didnt catch much I only had a shallow pan and it over flowed. It was a mess all over the floor. But then If I were to read the instructions better I forgot to take the cap off the overflow and Im sure that had some kind of preasure in it?

Thanks for your input. Just dont know how hot is too hot!!

I know that guide tells you how to empty the radiator of fluid and such, but how about getting ALL of it out? I know you could drain the radiator and refill with only water and repeat this until you only have water in the system, but how would you get the right amount of dexcool back in, as the amount of dexcool needed is moret han the radiator could hold for the one fillup you could have?
