My 1999 Corvette Hardtop will have 600hp at the crank after I throw in a supercharger, exhaust, etc. I need a clutch that is going to be reliable for the street as well as the strip. My choices are Ram Powergrip HD or Spec Stage 3. Which clutch is superior to the other?
I put the Ram in my z06 and the spec in a friends. His spec has alot more chatter than stock where my ram is really close to stock. My clutch pedal is alot harder than his though.
I rather have a clutch that has a hard pedal feel than one that chatter. Yea I've have heard about the Spec clutches blowing up but nothing on the Ram.
I had a Spec in my F-body and it had horrible chatter. Also their customer service was neither suprised or willing to help in any way when I called to get it warrantied
Hey, WKMCD. I may have missed the story; I remember you having a new LS7 clutch and being delighted with it. Why are you changing it to a Ram DD?

Ranger, you're right. I have run the LS7 clutch in my 460 RWHP 346 for the past 7k or so with great success. We're in the process of building a 402 with L92 heads and L76 intake and I don't think the LS7 clutch will handle the new HP numbers for very long. I still believe the LS7 clutch is a very good option for people in my situation with 450-460 RWHP. I don't track my but but I do drive the wheels of it.
I will be running the RAMS Dual Street on the 402. I chose it for the same reason I chose the LS7 clutch. Stock feeling pedal without chatter, shutter or the other downsides of many of the high performance clutches. The RAM Dueal Street is good for 900hp so it should hold the 402 well.

We'll have several Z06s at MIR Friday evening Oct 6th. If you can make it down I'd like to see just one of your 5000 rpm launches on that LS7 clutch that you posted about before.
While there, you can watch me and other LS7s launching at 3500, the limit of the LS7 before ours start glazing.

Good luck with the 402 and Ram DD.

Ranger, thanks for the invitation but I don't track my car.
I believe that the clutch doesn't work for you. I just don't understand why you're so sure it doesn't work for me. You seem to be enjoying this too much.
BTW: I've raced Gran Prix motorcylces on every major race track in this country and many overseas. I've got 15 years racing professionally so I do have a little track experience.

Believe you are drawing the wrong conclusion from my comments on the LS7 clutch.
Your comments cited below show that you have been able to make the LS7 clutch in your Corvette do things that no one else has been able to do. That is launch at an rpm above 3800 wihout glazing the clutch.
Bunch of C6Z owners would just like you to demo that launch. Because, on our cars and all other C6Zs that I've read about, the clutch will not accept slip.
Not doubting your MC racing credentials at all; but your comments on the LS7 clutch would lead other owners to believe that clutch will handle launches well, which LS7 owners have found is not the case.
With a clutch+installation running $1200-$1600, bad choices have alot of adverse impact on owners.
