Anyone have experience with this cam? I am thinking of installing one on my 98 A4 coupe. Any issues I should look for? No other mods except a Blackwing.
While there are cams out there that will make more power, the Hot Cam has fairly slow lobes that are easy on the valve train and if you like a lopey cam, this will do it. I have seen a lot of guys who are very happy with this cam. It is tough to tune from what I have been told. Have you looked into any of the Thunder cams, since you are close to them.
I've got the HotCam in my 68 and there were no tuning issues, so unless it's a computer thing and I really doubt that, it shouldn't be a problem at all.
I put the hot cam in my 02 WS6 6sp. Great cam although there are ones out there that are better for the LS1. This cam was designed for the LT1/4. Since you have an auto you WILL need a tune. The previous guy who has it in a 68 does not have all the other parameters to deal with that you will. On my 6sp I did not HAVE to tune it but it was a pain to drive with the stalling and surges in traffic. Some people drill a hole in the throttle body blade to get around this. This approach is a band aid IMO to get around the tuning issues. I wound up buying HP Tuners and learned how to tune the old fashion way. Once done my car ran great and loped real good.

My son has it in his 99 SS Camaro. Has LS6 Intake,Borlas, headers SLP MAF and throttle body. Works well after a tune with LS1 EDIT. I don't know if it is a good fit with the lope at idle on an A4 without a higher stall converter. It put out 380 RWHP on the dyno with that set up. It really needed a tune to get it running right. He has a 6 speed.
You also must change the valve springs to at least the LS6 springs.
