A friend of mine said in one of their vehicles they put nitrogen in all the tires (non-Corvette car). The pressure stayed constant in hot or cold, driving or setting still unlike air which fluxuates when driving and sitting in hot and cold weather. Is there any truth to this? Can I use nitrogen in my tires for my C5 instead of air and will it stay constant as I was told and if so will it harm my tps?
Many thanks,
Bill

1)You can use Nitrogen in your tires.
2)80% of the air that is in your tires now is Nitrogen.
3) Pure Nitrogen will fluctuate + - 1 psi in a day that varies more than 40 degrees in 24 hours... like Arizona or Texas in the summer. Where as Compressed air can fluctuate as much as 6/7 psi on a 40 degree variable day.
4) in climates that only see 20 degrees difference from hot to cold, there is little benefit.
5)If you can get it for free ( pure Nitrogen ) it wont hurt anything.
6) I would not pay for it... some places charge 10 dollars a tire.

There was a write-up about this in the December issue of Corvette Enthusiast saying a lot of positive things about nitrogen in tires but I don't think it is worth the money at all.
One of the biggest advantages of nitrogen is that is it "normally" a lot dryer than compressed air. Most shop compressors puts a lot of moisture in the air, specially on high humidity days. A lot of moisture can cause the pressure to fluctuate more.
Nitrogen won't hurt the sensors, it may even help them some since they should be subject to less moisture.
By the way - the Costco tire department at the store nearest me uses nitrogen. I don't think they charge extra for it, but I've never let them touch my car, so I don't know...
