I was told that I can use 2 5/16 rods rather than buying the tool. I noticed the tool has a flat side along the rods. Is the flat side a must or can I just use the regular rods? Thanks........Marc
Ive done at least 10 cam swaps on lsx vehicles. Each time I used wooden dowels bought from lowes. Just make sure you spin the cam by hand hard right before you pull it out and you will be fine. I normally spin it then drop 16 flex straws in the pushrod holes and observe it for a few minutes to see if they move. Then spin it one more time before pulling it out. I always have the other cam ready to drop in also....No issues so far
i bought some 5/16 rods but I have heard that you have to grind them down. What part do you grind down? I noticed on the cam tool you buy from TR has one side ground flat along the rod, do I have to grind it that way?
