Default Oil Leak 2001 vert

Drove to a few erands this morning. Maybe 30 or 40 miles. Did not run hard. Just a few over accelerated passes. When we got home I stoped in the drive to let my bride out then pulled in the garage. As I walked down the drive I saw what looked like 1 drop of oil. Backed My car out and sure enough 1 or 2 drops more.

I put some news paper down to see if I could pinpoint the leak and no more drops. Car has been parked 3 or 4 hours with no more drops. Had the oil changed back in August and watched for leaks after that and saw none.

I know it could be many things and I probably shouldnt worry about a drop or two of oil on a 6 year old car but I dont like it.

Any ideas?

Mike

I doubt it's oil only being 5 years old. Would be pretty rare if it was and most likely is rear diff. leak from the few drop description and then no more drops. Put a cardboard box or paper under the rear diff. next time you pull in to your garage. This has been a common problem on our C5's

Put newspaper under the entire car last night. No drops, took a 30 mile drive this am and let the car set idling for about 20 minutes pulled back in garage, 3 hours later no drips.

Lined up car with where the drops were yesterday and they definatley came from the front of the car. Just a little right of center and a little back of center. Shined my spot light down and I couldnt see any residue. No way to get under car at home.

Maybe I just spun something up from the road yesterday.

Shine the light by the oil filter, maybe that wasn't tight enough.

It is mounted to the rear passenger side of the engine.

Leak found I think.

Shined spotlight down again in front of engine. Saw fluid on what I think is a sway bar or a cross member. Alum. bar that runs across from side to side.

Looks like one of the lines that runs from the power steeering resievor has a small leak at one of the joints and the power steering fluid is low.

I hope thats all it is.
