Nah, that's not right, otherwise you'd have 120psi at 6K. LSx engines (stock) don't run much oil pressure: 20-30 psi is normal when warm.

To the original poster: I'd be checking for debris in the radiator if you were running 240s oil temp-wise just cruising, but not if you were running her hard (lower gears, etc.). Your oil pressure is fine.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Hey Mike

I wasn't making a statement of fact but more asking a question

My experience is that normal would be in the 30-40 range. When I had my LS1 it idled at 750 with oil pressure of 28-29. And went above 40 at 3000 rpm. This was with 5-30 wt oil.

Now with stroked LS2 with same idle rpm and 20-50 oil its at 31 idle and shoots into high 40's when I stomp on it.

Default oil pressure

oil pressure is a result of flow resistance. it is a pump sucking up oil and pushing it through an engine with a certain amount of clearances.
if the total sum of clearances is within a calibrated amount, the extra oil pressure that's not needed, is relieved from the oil pressure relief valve manufactured in the oil pump on the pressure side. the oil bypasses to the inlet side of the pump.
So if you desired 45 PSI, the spring is calibrated to relieve at about 42 with a total bypass at 45.
You should have total pump pressure by 1500RPM, and if it doesn't increase, the bypass valve (pressure relief) is working. if pressure increases, then I would seriously look atchanging the spring in the pump. Excessive pressure is not necessarily desireable.
at extremes, it can blow off your oil filter, or erode the bearings over time or cause lifter problems.

This is very interesting.......

What would be considered execessive pressure.....50 PSI ????

What lifter problems would that be??? What would I look for ????
