Hey Guys!! I need some help. I am fairly new to the Corvette community. I just bought my 2000 torch red C5, MN6, about 5 months ago. Ever since I bought the car I have been facing clutch problems. Whenever I take off in first gear, slow or fast. My car shakes, no matter how smooth I try, it shakes almost every time. I have tried the method of changing the clutch fluid from the reserve cup on the top. The fluid is almost clean now, just a couple of more time and it should be clear, but the problem is still there. Also the car drives normal when I drive on the speed limit, but once in a while when I punch it to have some fun, my clutch pedal starts giving out. I have to put the car in Neutral and pump the clutch pedal a few times for it to come back. Any advise please help!!
It is probably an aftermarket clutch and the "shaking" is from clutch chatter. As for the pedal going out it could be that when they changed it, they didn't bleed the system good or you have a master and/or slave cylinder going bad on you. I would get someone to bleed it for you first if you can't and then if that didn't work I would get a new master first since it is easier to replace than the slave. If that doesn't work get a new slave and it should be fine. As for the chatter/shaking you are stuck with that unless you change the clutch. If you decide to change the clutch that is when I would replce the slave since they aren't too expensive.
Im betting you still have the stock clutch. My 00 C5 had chatter with the stocker also. Seems it got worse after I overheated and spun the clutch a few times.
I had the sticky clutch pedal also, but very rarely. It only happened when I spun the hell outta the clutch. I believe most sticky clutch pedal problems are due to a slipping clutch. A slipping clutch creates a lot of heat which in turn heats the fluid in the slave. When this fluid boils you lose all hydraulic pressure and in turn your pedal sticks to the floor.
Thanks for all the help guys!! Anyone else that can recommend what to do in order to check these problems?? I am not good at working on cars, but with I can do it with proper directions. Any help would be appreicated.
