uhh?? anyway i didnt do anything wrong. i blind monkey can bolt an oil pump to a block using the provided spacers... im saying i must have a fluke casted cover or something i guess...
I'm sorry for your problems and also sorry that I'm too old to remember the exact details but, if you'll check my sig, I speced out all my mods myself. What I DO remember is that when I ordered my double roller chain JASON AT TEXAS SPEED told me something about under cutting something. Again I don't remember EXACTLY what we talked about but Jason provide the new oil pump and chain and Mike Norris had NO problems doing the install.
The car has run better than a timex for over 2 years and, except when I road race, dosen't use a drop of oil.
Best advise I can give is call Jason - he Knows his stuff and he's a really nice guy. Good luck.
this is funny. i bought it from texas speed. when i called back about my issues, they told me thy NEVER heard of any clearance issues and couldnt help me what so ever.. as for the balancer, its not hitting, i checked that for the third time, and yes its a stock balancer. the hub on the balancer is now .025 smaller than the smallest diameter of the pump rotor, i even lined the timing cover with playdoe this time installed it, removed it, and it is not hitting anymore. as for trash getting through the screen, its definetly possible. the pick up tube is too small in my opinion, so it looks like they made up for it by using a screen with larger holes. there is not much clearance in the pump casing, maybe .002. the holes in the oil screen are .025. it wouldnt take alot of particles to get in that pump and gall it up. / lock it up. i have had a few people tell me that they ran into this problem as well with a stock pump, not many though. i think that maybe there was a bad batch of timing cover castings and im just one of the unlucky guys who ended up with it. im sure theres alot of them, but not ALOT of people running a double chain, if you take into consideration how many ls1's were produced.
Just go back with a single. A great one is the JWISS, by Katech. Thunder Racing sells them. No clearance issues what so ever.
Actually Katech's chain is a Cloyes Hexadjust with Rain Chain. It's not cheap. They ran it on the C5R without a single failure during the C5R program. Here's a link to SDPC for the set -> http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1840...Timing-Set.htm
It appears that Comp also makes a single roller timing set for the LSx engines. I've no experience with that piece in particular, but I do have experience with their dry timing belt kits and have never had an issue.
We have seen the same problems on motors that others have built. They are junk and we will not use them. Most of them also have so much slop in them it's not even close.
Randy
Guys, listen to this man!!! My motor had a double roller as well, and that slop deal Randy speaks of, mine was one of them... Randy, how much slop did it have? like 1/2"??? At least i have a nice wall mount now... LOL!

Yes, That is what Fritz Kayl (the Ka of Katech.....Katech of C5R and C6R fame.....Lemans etc.) said about the majority of LS1 double chains. The Cloyes Rain chain has tighter tolerences.

Right. my motor is a C5R block 427... i don't know what roller was put in, but Randy knows. whatever it was, it looks AMAZING and was very tight!

Katech also makes the JWISS. It's just a stronger stock type replacement chain.

AJ's motor not only had the 1/2 of slop but it also was rubbing on the oil pump pretty good. AJ's motor wasn't the first time we have seen this crap either. All but one have been nothing but
Cloyes build a chain way back in the day 98 or so. We called them asked if they could tighten it up a little and they did. It is the chain that we have been using for years. No chain related failures that I can think of.
