If your not wanting to access the speaker itself and just want to remove the speaker grill, I think I read someplace that the grills just press into place. I think it said that if you get under the edge of it with a small screw driver it would come out. I need to remove mine and repaint them. I haven't had time to try this yet so if you try this be careful as I don't remember where I read the information I'm sharing and don't know how accurate it is. I haven't done this myself. If you try it and it works let me know and I'll do the same for you. It won't be until the weekend that I'll have time to work on mine.
Maybe somebody can verify this information???
I removed the door panel out of boredom a bit ago and the speaker grill is held in place by tabs that are bent back holding it to the door. I think you'd have to remove the door panel to get to the speaker as removing the grill requires the panel to be off anyway.

Won't work. You'll damage them trying. Remove door panel first, it's not too difficult.
Door panel removal it is then. I was hesitant to pass that information above because I wasn't real sure if it was accurate. Thanks to both of you for the info.
By the way, is it common for the speaker grills to get pretty scratched up or do I have an unusual situation.

Only common insofar as banging your shoe into it upon entry/exit. The grills are steel but will flex somewhat. If banged hard enough they can be damaged. I just try to be very careful not to hit them with my shoes.

no; nO; NO !!!
here's a behind-the-door-panel shot:
on my gray interior, notice the tabs of the speaker grille poking through to the inside and bent over.
the red arrow shows a small piece of foam added to reduce the grille vibrating against the plastic protector basket.
