So last year after doing tranny and rear end im driving home one night and hear a screeching noise. Stop get out check brakes wheels everything. Its all good so continue on about another mile to my place. Get it in the shop and jack it up checking the rear end for noises fearing I didnt set backlash right on ring and pinion. About 4 hrs. later im putting it back together and notice that the bottom shock bolt nut came loose and the bolt is barely hanging in the shock and rubbing on the inside of the rim. Turns out my "buddy" had tightened them down for me. So i replace w/ nylon lock nuts and red lock tite. Now today im almost home and hear the same crap again. Get out and sure enough driver side bolt hanging out rubbing on inside of rim. There is no way they can just work loose is there? Has anybody else every experienced this or heard about it. I do thank gm for engineering that bolt to be just long enough to not fall out or i would never know until next time i hit a corner at about 75 or so with no rear shocks.

I'd get a new bolt and nut and torque both sides to the factory spec. It's somewhere in the neighborhood of 162 lbft as I recall. Serious torque.
