Default Which Synthetic Oil?

I am going to do the first oil change on my Corvette since I purchased it. The vette has around 150K and uses synthetic. I do not know which brand the previous owner used. What are your recomendations based on my mileage and your experiences?

Any full synthetic will be fine. I run Mobil 1 10w-30, but it rarely gets cold here. Up in MD I'd consider 5w-30.

Congrats on the new ride, and have a good one!

Pick up a bottle/jug of Synthetic motor oil. (not synthetic blend)

1. look on the back label for meets/exceeds GM4718M
2. look at the Brand
3. look at the viscosity
4. look at the price

IF it says meets/exceeds GM4718M, AND the Viscosity is either 5W30 or 10W30 ( if the air temp will not go below 32 before your next oil change)AND the brand is one you TRUST AND the price is what you are willing to pay, buy it.
Mobil 1
Amsoil
Royal Purple
Pennzoil Platinum
Quaker State

are Brands that meets or exceed the GM4718M spec.

My preference is Mobil1 5W30

Whatever oil you use I would go with a 10W-40 with the mileage on your car. My personal preference is Red Line Oil (www.myoilshop.com) or any other quality synthetic will be fine.

I'm still using Mobil 1, 5W30 at 146,600 miles. Burns less than a quart between oil changes.

I agree that with the high mileage engines i would use 10w30. I think that if you switched to 10w30 that you would burn a half a quart anymore.

Red line here. Royal Purple in the tranny, diff and clutch. Motul 600 for the brakes.

Add Castrol Synthetic motor oil to that list also. It has the GM4718M also.
I'm a Royal Purple user myself, eng..trans...diff.

I agree with this. I like Amsoil but any 10w 40 synthetic will work.

Default What about Valvoline?

I checked their site, and Valvoline Synpower also meets the GM4718M spec. We have used Valvoline VR-1 exclusively in my son's race car for six years.
