ok my next mod is going to be a cam but i dont know witch one would be the best one for my car....i have a 98 a4 3:15 gear , twin flow intake with cf air bride , borla straight pipe exhaust , stock h-pipe with hollow cats and a custom dyno tune,,,,,,now my future mods after the cam is going to be ls6 heads ported and polish and ls6 intake manifold some LT headers and x-pipe i am going NA all motor....so what cam would be the best one for my aplication???
Well, you need to figure out how you want the car to perform. Are you looking for peak numbers at a high RPM or more power under the curve at lower RPM's. Are emissions an issue? Do you want the car to lope or not lope? Do you plan on putting in a converter?
Vinci over in Orlando has some nice cams for an automatic.
yes i want it to lope thats the best part of the cam looknig for a mid range cam emissions not a problem cause theres no emissions in florida and torque converter will go in once my trans goes out i will replace the trans and a 3000 stall converter will go in
Here, this will help explain a few of the parameters that govern the cam design. Good read if you are not familiar with cams. If you want good low and mid-range power, then you also need to compute your dynamic compression ratio for any of the cams you consider. This is computed using the intake valve closure rather than simply the cylinder volume.
You might look at cams in the high twentys-low thirties, right around 580-610 lift. I think a 3000 stall would be a bit low for the 3:15s, you might look at 3200-3600. Good luck with whatever you choose.
