Default Upgrading differential shaft(s)

I need to upgrade the output shaft in my rearend, and I was wondering what the consensus is for the upgrade. Do I need to only upgrade the left side, or do most people go ahead and do both sides since they're in the rearend already?

If you are near or over 500 rwhp and running slicks upgrage both.

I probably have the power covered right now, but I've not run the car on slicks yet. It's been run on drag radials several times, but I want to be able to move ahead with running slicks if I desire.

Thanks for the input.

Slicks will "cushion" the launch more than a drag radial. IMO, I think if you are running drag radials you stand more of a chance of breaking something...

I broke my left output on 440rwhp and only replaced the left. I should have done both, that way I could do 6k launches and fell good about it. Every time I leave now I wonder what and when it will break.......

I agree soft sidewalls will definitely cushion alot of the shock, especially if your a 6-speed. I only did the left side because the right side is only a couple inches long, whereas the left side is almost 10" long. Obviously the longer it is the less torque will be required to break it. But I also dont drag mine alot. Maybe couple times a year. But if you have extra cash to blow on it, Its just one less thing you will have to do in the future. I also installed new clutches and spring in the rear when I did mine. Awesome upgrade, and its such a pain to do the rear end you might as well do it while its out, budget permitting.

Put in the “hardened” output shafts on both sides. With drag radials, you can break either side with an almost stock motor. Don’t ask me how I know. :o

See, now you're talking crazy! If I start thinking about doing something while the rearend is out, I'll be broke in a hurry!

My rearend only has 21000 miles on it, so I would assume that the clutches are good. However, like has been said, while I'm in there it's just one less thing to worry about.
