Default Exhaust installation

This weekend I will be swapping out the Stock Exhaust for a TI Z-06 exhaust.

I have read a lot about the heat shield on the tank (I have an A-4) and have seen contradicting info on if I need to remove the muffler hangers at the rear of the car, or just pull the exhaust from it. My real concern would be the chance to loose the bolts back up into the rear.

Any input / suggestions?

I guess I can start without removing and then remove if I have to.

Thanks .

I have an A4 and when we installed the Ti's on mine we had to:
1. Swing the rear sway bar down.
2. Remove the passenger side fuel tank metal shield. The tank will drop down a little, so don't panic. lol
3. Remove the two bolts on each side holding the catbacks to the rest of the exhaust.
4. You'll be able to remove the stock exhaust and install the Ti's without removing the rear muffler hangers.

you should NOT have to drop the fuel tank at all! Y0U have to get the rear of the car HIGH off of the ground (ie: at least 33 inches from ground to the BOTTOM of the rear bumper fascia)

I had to remove the pass side heat shield for the fuel tank - I think it was 2 10mm bolts as I recall, but it DID NOT in any way make the gas tank drop down on that side.

Toughest thing is getting your car up that high w/ jackstands. Be CAREFUL!!

Drop your rear sway bar down is a must - then, it's just a matter of a little wiggling and the cat backs come out!

Thanks for the updates. Brother in Law has a shop complete with Lift so the height is not an issue.

I'll try to remember to take the digital camera in to photo document the carnage... Unless this is delayed to watch the Cardinals win the World Series !
