Default MM6 Transmission-No reverse

03 convertible-94,000 miles never raced or abused. When I try to shift into reverse, the shift lever goes into position, but the car won't move. If I put the car in reverse with the engine off, ignition on, start the car and release the clutch, I hear a grinding, rattleing sound from rear of car. With the ign on, engine off, and the rear jacked up, and shift lever in reverse, I hear a grinding rattleing sound coming from the transmission when i rotate the tires.

This happened to me with no warning, when I was about 300 miles from home. I did drive it home with no problems, all 6 forward gears shift fine.

Anybody have or hear of this problem? I did a search but didn't find any thing.

Chas, this is purely a guess, but I'm thinking a bent or broken shift fork. Hopefully someone with more savvy than I will have a definitive answer.

That sounds like a good possibility,I am sure the tranny has to come out. How much would a dealer charge to do that?

I am planning on calling you monday morning. My local dealer is good, but I don't think they have much experiance with the 6 speed. I was in your area when the problem happened. I spent the night in Speedway and was heading south on 65 when I stopped for breakfast. I had to push the car out of my parking place. Its only about 4.5 hours from my house to your shop. I have not decided if I want to pull the transmision out myself or have someone else do it, we can decuss options when I call you.

Default Thanks Rodney-Awesome service

I arrived at RPM transmission about 8:30 am and left about 2:00 pm. I was very impressed how they got the transmission out, repaired and installed in that time. The transmission was in much worse shape than I expected, with only 95,000 miles on it, but Rodney had all the parts needed to repair it. The price was very reasonable, for what he did. The transmission shifts great, better than it did when it was new.

Thanks Rodney and crew. If I ever have transmission problems again I will call Rodney.

I have the same problem.
I've changed my transmission oil, it 's working better now.
I miss the shift maybe 1 time on 10 tries, before the oil change, I used to miss the shift 7 times on 10 tries.
What was wrong with your transmission?
My french dealer was affraid to open it and wanted to change everything (clunch, transmission, etc...) $12000 !!!!

I ahve heard great stuff about them too. I might just have to get a full blown 'Dave proof' trany from them this winter, as mine gets LOTS of use in 1/4 mile incriments
Dave
PS plus I suck and my trany is tired

Mainshaft, Bottle Gear, Reverse Gear, Reverse Hub, 3-4 Shift fork, Blocking Rings- all gears, Bronze fork pads, Synchronizer Keys, Seals(4), and fluids. Other than those items every thing looked good. Hopefully I can get more than only 95,000 on this rebuild.
