I know this is a stupid question. I was watching BParker's video with the mustang that wrecked. Does car insurance cover a wreck at the track? I didn't know if there may be a clause in it about any kind of racing.
Racing & Illegal activity (not that they have anything to do w/each other) are usually excluded from coverage. But I have heard of some hit & run damage or dear ran out in front of me being covered.
Bottom line, if you are going to race, you are risking breaking & wrecking and as someone who does it weekly...it cost $ .
Odds are very slim that you will wreck though...just use common sense & know the feel of your car. Pretty hard to hurt a mostly stock C5 mechanically as well.

Most auto insurance companies will not cover damage that occured while racing at a 1/4 mile track. Also, should you be killed at the track, most life insurance policies exlcude auto racing as a "covered" cause of death when determining whether or not to pay benefits to your family. (At least for the first year of the policy, in my case.)
Here is a section from the nasaproracing website.
Accidents:
Accidents: Body damage to cars very rarely occurs, however you are encouraged to check with your insurance company regarding coverage. Most insurance companies cover damages to your car during the school (HPDE) portion of the event. Be careful if they tell that it is not covered. Agents have been wrong before. Ask them for a list of "eclusions" in YOUR policy and consult and expert. From 1989 to date, there has been zero unpaid claims.
The problem is that most insurance policys excluded timed races. I attended the f-body.org event in Memphis this year and two cars slid into the wall on the road course, but the road course part of the event is NOT timed specifically for this reason. Its just for fun and learning to drive.
This subject came up sometime back. The author stated that he had Nationwide insurance and that he double checked with his agent and there were NO exclusions in his policy. I have Nationwide also, but I have never checked up on this. I took the forum members word that he was certain that Nationwide would cover an accident at the track.....
 This is scarey! I have state farm and am getting a really good price on my insurance right now. I totaled my 97 Transam and they were really awesome to me. They paid me 20K for it!
