Default NEED HELP: EBTCM Code C1255

need help and/or suggestions....have 99 and DIC scans service ABS....traction control....this car was just shipped from austin, tx to me in pa and from day one has scrolled this message...have taken it to (2) different local shops and both have diagnosed w/ hand held computers.....C1255 EBTCM....the dealer in tx says NO WAY...he has only seen one bad in 14 years!!!! thinks we have a bad wheel sensor!! car only has 9k miles also......please email me @ ottj@innernet.net

Mine was coming up intermittently also. I disconnected the harness to the front wheel sensors and put some dielectric grease (same as used for spark plugs) on the contacts and haven't had it since. May also want to check grounds per Bill Curlee's posts.

My 2000 has less miles then that and I had the dealer diagnose the problem and the code was C1255 which meant, as I understand, that the EBCM was bad. I replaced the EBCM two nights ago and the problem was gone. I can get you a new EBCM for $320.00 delivered to you via UPS. Installing it took me about 2 hours, it was my first time so it took longer then it would the second time. PM me if you want me to sell you a new unit.

DTC C1255 EBTCM Internal Malfunction




Circuit Description
This DTC identifies a malfunction within the EBTCM.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
DTC C1255xx is set when an internal EBTCM malfunction exists.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
ABS/TCS/Active Handling (if equipped with RPO JL4) are disabled.

• Indicators that turn on:

- ABS indicator

- Car Icon (TCS indicator)

• Messages displayed on the DIC:

- Service ABS

- Service Traction System

- Service Active HNDLG (if equipped with Active Handling RPO JL4)

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• Condition for DTC is no longer present and scan tool clear DTC function is used.

• Fifty ignition cycles have passed with no DTCs detected.

Diagnostic Aids
• When DTC C1255xx is displayed on the Scan Tool, it will be followed by two more numbers which should be noted along with any other DTCs that may be displayed. The additional two numbers displayed with DTC C1255xx are for aiding engineering to determine the cause of the internal malfunction.

• Make sure the integrity of the connection between the EBTCM and the BPMV is secure, tight, and free from corrosion.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the EBTCM.
Check for damaged, pushed out, or miswired terminals.
Was any damage found?

IF YES Go to Step 4
IF NO Go to Step 5

Repair as necessary.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - ABS
--

Replace the EBTCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?
