How hard is a polished TB to install? I was thinking about that as a nice little power mod and sending my core back but is it something I can install (im used to lights and bolt on stuff) or do I need a shop and aprox. price im expecting.
Also same type deal for the LS6 intake
Are these mods even worth it on a stock 98 convertible? Im going to get CAI and rear exhaust within the next few months too.
I am putting on a Shaner Ported TB, and an LS6 intake on my 99 vert next week, may have dyno comparisions in two weeks. Dyno'd 300 RWHP stock with Borla catbacks and Blackwing intake. Hoping maybe 310-315 when done (messing with the tune also).
SLP is where I ordered the LS6 intake new for $411 includes the gaskets and LS6 style steam tubes/plugs. TB I got from another forum member for $125 no core.

Throttle body is a simple change. If it has never been off you will need a new gasket. It is more of a "hard to reach" task more than anything. Also, since it may have never been apart, you may want to drain some coolant from the radiator and then cut off the rubber hose that goes from the front of the head cross-over tube to the driver's side bottom of the throttle body. If you tug and pull on this line too hard you could damage the metal cross-over tube which would be a bigger problem.
The intake on the LS1 is actually much simpler to change than the old small block, but it is a little more difficult than just the throttle body. If you go to LS1howto.com and look there, you can get a feel for what's involved to determine if you feel comforable taking on the job. If the car can be down for a while, there is always help here to if you run into a problem.

The TB change is as simple as it gets. You might want to go ahead and do the TB bypass while you're there, not so much for the performance increase, but for the ease of installation and possible removal in the future. (I personally didn't have to buy anthing since I had a connector and some extra hose just lying around the shop.)
When you do the intake, a good STRESS preventative would be to put a short (4"-6") "extension" on the small vaccume line that runs to the back of the manifold. This will allow you to put the line on the manifold before slipping it in place
You'll see at least 15-20 HP especially with the manifold swap!
Thanks,Matt
Matt, don't expect big gains from porting a tb, you will be disappointed. People, like Mark Shaner, can definitely improve throttle response and maybe gain 3-5 RWHP. Just don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.
