Default More than a few problems...Help!

Well, after a long hiatus, I have returned. I used to be a member here, but now that my wife and I have a 1999 red convertible rather than my old 98 silver coupe, I thought I'd register us a collective name. So...I'm back!

But on to my issues:

Our windshield has developed a small 3 inch crack...any ideas how much this will cost to get replaced?

Our CD changer mysteriously stopped working...it doesn't respond on the main unit when we hit the "AUX" button. Any ideas?

And lastly (and most concerning), we have a gas phantom in our Vette. We went on a daytrip to Skyline Drive last weekend, and upon reaching half full on the gas tank, the needle drops like there is no gas, and the "CHECK GAUGES" alert comes up. Seems like it might be an expensive fix.

I'm frustrated...but when it rains, it pours!

Any answers, send em' my way! ;-)

I'll respond to your gas gauge issue;

This is typically caused by excessive sulfur content in the fuel you are using, causing the contacts in the fuel gauge sensor to become oxidized.

The solution is to run a few bottles of Techron fuel additive to clean up the contacts, then use fuels known to be low in sulfur content.

The consensus is BP and Chevron good, Shell (and possibly others) not so good. I had this issue for a brief time when I first purchased the car, but after the additive and only running BP, the gauge has worked flawlessly ever since.

Default No damage with additives?

I've heard that Vettes don't respond well to fuel additives...

Any truth to this? Or is it perfectly safe to run the Techron stuff?

For your CD changer problem try removing the discs holder/cartridge and reinsert and try it again after it resets itself

Shell is one of the good guys (www.toptiergas.com). SUNOCO is very high in sulphur!! Use a top tier fuel supplier which has the additives already in the fuel so you don't have to do the techron all the time.

For the windshield crack, don't you have glass coverage? All insurance companies here in CT offer it for a very small extra fee ($10 a year or something). No deductible and most places will come right out and install it at your office. If you had to pay out of pocket, make sure the guy knows that its a CASH deal (not insurance) and the price drops over $100 for the glass, since they're getting paid on the spot. I paid for my truck windshield out of pocket and it was $260 or somethign like that. Vette should be less than $300 unless you have the antenna in the glass, then it might be a bit more. Make sure you use a company that uses PPG glass. It is tempered differently so it will get a chip or nick but not crack as easily as other cheap options like autolite. I have 3-4 chips on my new windshield from large rocks but no cracks!

I'M NOT TOO SURE HOW MUCH THE WINDSHIELD COST, I KNOW IT'S NOT CHEAP I'M GUESSING ANYWHERE FROM $300-$500 OR SO. I WOULD CHECK WITH ANY/ALL JUNK YARDS WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE OF YOU. MAYBE YOU'LL FIND A REAR COLLISION VETTE WITH A MINT WINDSHIELD FOR LIKE $100 OR SO BUCKS. JUST A THOUGHT, HOPE IT WORKS OUT.

I've been running Sunoco since I purchased new in '02 without a problem as yet! On the winshield, I have one question just in case I need one in the future. Does a car with "headup" display require a special windshield ??
